The Overseas Police Association Group (OPAG) comprising of Police Associations from Gibraltar, Jersey, Isle of Man and Guernsey met in Gibraltar House in London on Thursday 10th December 2015. A Memorandum of Understanding was agreed and signed by the member Police Associations. The MOU has formalised OPAGs purpose and the desire of the OPAG Police Associations to work together in mutual areas of interest. Discussions of the meeting in London involved understanding each member organisation’s Misconduct Regulations, pay and pensions, Federation training, facility time arrangements, welfare issues and legal insurance and protection for its members. Presentations to OPAG were made by leading solicitors specialising in Police representation and the Police Mutual Assurance Society. The GPA and GDPF were able to share their positive experience of membership within EuroCOP and the benefits this brings for its members. OPAG member representatives were upbeat and positive after a very constructive and fruitful day of discussions. Mr. Henry Bautista the GPA Chairman and current Chair of OPAG was instrumental in recruiting the GDP Federation to OPAG’s membership and welcomed the GDP Federation to the OPAG family.
OPAG would publicly like to thank the Government of Gibraltar for facilitating the use of Gibraltar House in London for the OPAG meeting. The role of the Hon. Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo QC and Mr. Albert Poggio in ensuring that a first class working environment for the OPAG meeting was provided deserves a special mention.
